Re: Battery option research - feedback requested

Kor, to me, there is something wildly "out of whack" here. You are considering a really big (720 watt) solar array coupled with an enormous (675Ah) battery bank. I looked at your "estimated usage" spreadsheet expecting to see a large assortment of high-current devices - microwave...

Re: Tracer 2210RN Settings

Hi Alec, I am not familiar with that particular controller, but if it has been running well for some time we can probably presume that the settings are correct. First off, check your solar panels. In bright sun, measure the voltage across each of them and then their respective short-circuit current....

Re: Battery option research - feedback requested

AA Solar AGM seem like the clear winner. I am suspicious/pessimistic. Am I missing anything? You sure are! I see that you are counting on a 50% working Depth of Discharge for these batteries. If your average DOD is more than just 20%, you void the warranty! See http://www.aasolar.co.nz/AGM%20Warran...

Re: Solar Panel Wiring Diagrams.

" Surely controllers would block any reverse current" (from the controller back to the panels at night). They do - but diodes are needed to block reverse current between panels in the event of shading, cell damage or panel failure. Some solar panels incorporate blocking diodes but many do ...

Re: Solar Panel Wiring Diagrams.

Here is a wiring diagram showing where blocking diodes should be fitted if 2 or more solar panels are connected in parallel. https://s13.postimg.org/qk8igksyf/screenshot_26.png This schematic diagram is for conventional (Negative ground) vehicles and conventional (Negative ground) solar controllers....

Re: Solar Panel Wiring Diagrams.

200 watts of solar power is not a lot if you want to run a 12v fridge. If you can, try and find room for a bit more, say 300 watts minimum, 400 watts would be good, 500 watts excellent. Now is the time to do this as it will be much harder to add later. I think you should spend just a little more for...

Re: Keeping 24v Starter batteries charged from a 12v system.

That all sounds good, Robin. It will take only milliamps to maintain the battery at Float voltage, so there is no need to set the maximum current at more than one or two amps or so. Since the device is powered by solar panels, the Low Voltage Cutout is superfluous and can be set to any lowish figure...

Re: Napier Tightens The Freedom Camping Belt Yet Again

Petercw, the site goes by several names, including the Ellison Street Carpark, the Pump Park, the Pump Track, the Bike Pump Track, the Marine Parade Pump Track Park, NZMCA 3792 etc. I think that the Napier Council deserves credit for what it has done. It would be really good if other councils did as...
